This is an album of very interesting photographs of old Pretoria, the administrative capital of the Voortrekkers, Kruger's Transvaal Republic (ZAR), and today the Republic of South Africa. Vintage photos of the earliest buildings, businesses and street scenes are accompanied with explanatory text providing historical background for each image. A map and key of Pretoria as it was in 1889 provide a valuable insight of the layout of the old town and lends geographical context to the images. Lola Dunston's illustrations add charm and personal touch to this record of the town's early architecture.
