SIGNED by Author.

"...A typical day in his clinical years: Leaving home at six a.m., travelling to Observatory, walking to Medical School, attending lectures and tutorials until two in the afternoon, and then clerking patients admitted to the ward. At about ten at night we would buy some fish and chips in the Main Road in Observatory, and work until about three a.m. Then I would walk from Groote Schuur Hospital to Salt River Station, board the caboose at twenty-past-three in the morning, reach Elsies River station at about twenty-to-four and walk the three or so kilometres up Halt Road to 21st Avenue, where we lived, grab some (usually cold) food, take a nap for about two hours, then start the journey back to Groote Schuur Hospital where I had to be in time to present the new admissions to the consultant and medical staff on the ward round at eight a.m. On one occasion I was late for the ward round and was duly reprimanded...
The sheer effort required, simply to participate, was a powerful impediment to academic success.

2007. Softcover. 323 pages. Very good condition, as new.  Under 1kg.
