Silver & Enamel British 'General Nursing Council' Badge (Low Number)
This very early, scarce, silver and blue enamel badge of the 'GNC for England & Wales' was issued to a low number '1033', and in the first year of the 'GNC's' inception. It is inscribed on the back to 'N. BIRKS, SRN, 1033' on the '3. 2.22' ('SRN' for State Registered Nurse). The 'GNC' badges were awarded between 1922 and 1983 (in solid silver from 1922 to 1940), with this one being English hallmarked on the back for Birmingham 1923. It's a nice quality badge with a good weight and in excellent condition, with a secure roll-over clasp and pin. It measures 26mm in diameter and weighs 9,8g.
