Silverplated Dining Table Crumber (Silent Butler) Brush and Pan Sweeping Set circa early 1900s Rarely Seen Item

A VINTAGE SILVERPLATED DINING TABLE CRUMB BRUSH AND PAN SWEEPING SET FROM THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY.
 
The use of crumb brushes and pans originated amongst the aristocracy of Europe before becoming more commonplace in homes of the Victorian era. These small brushes and trays were used to remove crumbs from the tablecloth between courses, making the dining experience more pleasant and potentially reducing the amount of laundering needed for table linen.
 
Also Called a crumber or The Silent Butler it was a tool designed to push the crumbs into a vessel, before they hit the floor. Crumbing the table also maintains the aesthetic of a beautifully set table and preserves the life of a tablecloth.
