SimFarm presents you with the opportunity to develop a successful farm, one that can take many approaches: you can concentrate on crop production, animal husbandry, environmental friendliness, the amassing of wealth¾you reap what you sow. There is plenty of flexibility built into the program, so that experimentation with different crops, fields, machinery and animals can produce different results and different challenges.
The simulation itself provides a comprehensive overview of the farming industry using dynamic, responsive examples. There are planting, growing and harvesting models that prompt every crop to behave according to its individual characteristics, and those variable characteristics respond to the soil quality of your fields, how you maintain them, and seasonal changes. If your crops and machinery can't weather the weather, you can always take out a loan or two, but even if you've grown it, there's no free lunch in SimFarm the loan officers will come calling. And if those skies aren't cloudy enough, you can always speculate on tomorrow's, by investing in your crops on the futures market. Work begins very early on this farm and you won't be sleeping much.
The program includes a host of prebuilt scenarios that offer varying degrees of challenge. Since SimFarm, like all Maxis simulations, doesn't request of you a linear, predetermined goal, there isn't a definitive right way or wrong way to approach gameplay. If your crops fail and one field turns to blight, plant elsewhere. If the bank is chasing your dollars like bloodhounds after the fox, there are a bunch of clever tactics to stave off capture. Besides, in SimFarm, failure is opportunity, to learn and to try again
You own a plot of good farmland. Do you want a small family farm--or an agricultural profit center? Do you want to produce food for the local town--or feed the world's hungry masses? Do you use the latest chemical fertilizers and pesticides--or run an "organic" farm? It's up to you. Plow your fields, sow your seeds, harvest your crops and sell them at market. Easy? Sure, except for soil depletion, crop rotation, changing markets and diminishing farmland--not to mention pests, droughts, dust storms and other fun disasters. A fun and original game that's highly recommended. Growing tomatoes has never been this much fun :)
Recomendation : complex, fun and educational, as a business simulation alone not much comes close to this one even today period.
