This medal was instituted in 2005 and is made from a lightly sprayed matt brass. On the obverse is a flowering aloe (the central motif of the SAPS cap badge) surrounded by a laurel wreath. On the reverse is a centrally placed embellished Coat of Arms (1910 - 2003) of the Republic of South Africa, below which is the date 15 October 1995, around the perimeter of the reverse is the full title of the medal.
This medal was instituted to commemorate the foundation of the South African Police Service which incorporated the South African Police and police forces of the various homeland states. It was awarded to all members of the SAPS (permanent and temporary members) who were serving on 15 October 1995. All awards were issued named with the serial number, rank and name of the recipient, on the reverse. PLEASE NOTE: THESE MEDALS ON AUCTION ARE UNNAMED AND BIDDING IS PER MEDAL.
