BLUE GREEN TURKOOIS OLIVETTI ITALY STUDIO 45 TYPEWRITER WORKING! IN HARD CARRYING CASE DESIGN ETTORE SOTTSASS

THIS IS VINTAGE 1968 OLIVETTI STUDIO 45 TYPEWRITER WITH CARRYING CASE. WITH SERIAL NO 1246012 THIS TYPEWRITER WAS MADE IN ITALY 56 YEARS AGO IN 1968.

THE SLEEK STUDIO 45 TYPEWRITER WAS DESIGNED BY ETTORE SOTTSASS FOR OLIVETTI IN 1967. IN HINDSIGHT IT WAS CALLED THE APPLE TYPEWRITER OF THE DAY NOT ONLY FUNCTIONAL BUT BEAUTIFUL AS WELL. The Studio 45 was just one of many typewriters Sottsass designed for Olivetti over his near three decades long professional relationship with the Italian company. Influenced in part by the American Pop artists, many of Sottsasss designs for Olivetti shared bold, candy coloring, an aspect that has led many design historians to equate his typewriters with Apples iPods and iMac desktops of the late 1990s, notable for their translucent brightly hued shells.

OLIVETTI TYPEWRITERS WAS THE LAPTOP OF ITS DAY AND WAS USED BY NON OTHER THN FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA (THE GODFATHER SCREENWRITER), BOB DYLAN (SONGWRITER), SYLVIA PLATH (POET), CORMAC MCCARTHY (WRITER) AND PHILIP ROTH (NOVELIST) AMONGST OTHER WRITERS FOR PERSONAL USE.

OLIVETTI TYPEWRITERS (1908-1994):
Production started with 20 employees and 20 machines per week near Ivrea (Torino) Italy in 1908.
The first typewriter Olivetti M1 was available in 1911. Yet the market was not ready for the novelty. Typewriters were an import, and rare. It was not a familiar sight from an unknown company. However more than a decade later, Olivetti shipped 13,000 machines a year. It was the brainchild of engineer Camillo Olivetti whose vision back then was revolutionary.
Olivetti became synonym with machines for the office that looked good and worked well starting in 1933. Camillos son Adriano took over marketing for the company and its products. The style and culture he pioneered for the company became a rare example of industrial design in Italy and Europe.
In the 30s Adriano took over advertising, introducing photography. He also worked on product design, releasing two new models the Lexikon 80 (1948) and the first portable typewriter, Lettera 22 (1950).
It was the Apple of the day. The company designed state-of-the-art machines that were also attractive.
By 1994, Olivetti stopped production of typewriters, as more and more users were transitioning to personal computers.
