Own a genuine piece of prehistoric history with this authentic Calymene Trilobite Fossil from the famous fossil beds of Jebel Tiskouine in Morocco's Anti-Atlas Region. This remarkable Moroccan trilobite fossil is preserved as a natural internal mould within sandstone and offers an incredible glimpse into ancient marine life that existed over 440 million years ago.
Trilobites were extinct marine arthropods related to modern crabs, lobsters, and horseshoe crabs. First appearing during the Early Cambrian Period around 521 million years ago, they became one of the most successful life forms in Earth's ancient oceans. With more than 25,000 known species, trilobites occupied nearly every marine environment before eventually disappearing during the Permian mass extinction approximately 250 million years ago.
This Ordovician trilobite fossil comes from the fossil-rich Ktaoua Group formations of Morocco, an area once covered by a shallow prehistoric sea. Over millions of years, sediment buried these ancient creatures, preserving their detailed segmented bodies within stone. Today, the Anti-Atlas Mountains are internationally recognised for producing some of the world's most collectible trilobite fossils.
Often referred to as Flexicalymene ouzregui, these fossils remain highly sought after by fossil collectors, educators, and natural history enthusiasts. Each authentic trilobite fossil is completely unique, with natural variations in preservation, texture, and colour that add to its prehistoric character.
