Smoky Quartz with Feldspar from Erongo - Tower of Shadow
Size: 31mm x 31mm x 90mm Approximately
Weight: 118 gram
This exceptional Smoky Quartz crystal from the famed Erongo Mountains of Namibia rises like a sculpted obelisk, showcasing rich transparency with warm smoky hues and dramatic internal zoning. One face is adorned with a fascinating cluster of contrasting white feldspar crystals, creating a remarkable textural interplay. The sharp terminations, well-formed striations, and aesthetic balance make this an outstanding display specimen.
Smoky Quartz is a variety of quartz that owes its brown to nearly black coloration to natural radiation exposure and the presence of trace amounts of aluminum in the crystal lattice. This particular piece formed in pegmatitic pockets within Erongo's granitic intrusions, where high-temperature hydrothermal fluids created an ideal environment for crystal growth.
The Erongo region is geologically remarkable, shaped by ancient volcanic activity and granitic intrusions during the Early Cretaceous (~130150 million years ago). Its alkaline pegmatites are world-renowned for producing exceptional minerals like aquamarine, schorl, fluorite, and, of course, smoky quartz. The combination of heat, pressure, and mineral-rich fluids gave rise to a dazzling array of crystal specimens with unparalleled clarity and form.
Smoky Quartz from Erongo is especially prized for its elegant color gradients, exceptional clarity, and aesthetic combinations with feldspar and schorlall of which are present in this piece.
Add this sophisticated piece of Namibian geology to your collection todayit's a conversation starter and a collector's gem!
