Publisher: London, R. Bowyer, 1802

High quality hand- coloured aquatint on Whatman paper from Luigi Mayer's "Views in Egypt, Palestine and Other Parts of the Ottoman Empire" published between 1801 and 1804. Aquatint is 31.5 cm x 24 cm. Very good condition indeed with one small mark on side edge. Looks to have been professionally cleaned.  Loosely in an excellent condition mount.

Views in Egypt, Palestine and Other Parts of the Ottoman Empire

This originally hand-colored aquatint engraving is from Luigi Mayers Views in Egypt, Palestine and Other Parts of the Ottoman Empire. The work was published in London by Thomas Bensley for R. Bowyer between 1801 and 1804. The work published numerous informative views of the Middle East.

The original drawings for the work were completed by Luigi Mayer for Sir Robert Ainslie. Ainslie was Englands ambassador to Turkey at Constantinople. Mayer was a well-versed traveler recording scenes in Palestine, Egypt, and present-day Turkey. He made sure to detail the architecture, costumes, and landscapes of the subjects.
