Published by Michael Joseph in London in 1952, Snowflake by Paul Gallico is a scarce and enchanting first edition Christmas tale. Best known for classics such as "The Snow Goose" and "Jennie", Gallico had a special gift for writing touching, imaginative stories, and "Snowflake" is among his most charming seasonal works.
The story follows a little snowflake who longs to see the world below and discovers wonder, kindness and the meaning of Christmas. Written with Gallico's characteristic warmth and beautifully enhanced by decorations from David Knight, Snowflake has become a favourite among collectors of vintage Christmas books and illustrated mid-century children's literature.
This first edition of Snowflake retains its original pictorial dust jacket with the striking winter village design and matching decorated title page. Copies of this 1952 Michael Joseph edition are increasingly difficult to find, particularly with the dust jacket still present.
Condition - Very Good
Very Good hardcover in a Very Good original dust jacket. The jacket is unclipped showing the original 17s 6d net price and remains bright and attractive, with light rubbing, minor wear and a few tiny chips at the spine ends and corners. The blue cloth boards beneath are clean and sound with bright spine lettering. There is light foxing throughout and a prior ownership stamp on the front free endpaper. Despite this, the book remains internally clean, bright and well preserved overall.
