So cool!! Vintage coal mining Deputy's walking stick

The Deputy's stick was not only a walking aid but (before powered supports) it was a measuring instrument to see that roof supports were set at the regulation distance and an aid to test for gas in a high road-way. This particular stick has a brass foot with a slit into which one end of a tape measure could be inserted - stick would then be raised to the roof allowing tape to unroll to the ground and thereby measure distance. It also has a solid metal pick handgrip to use when needed (a handy defence weapon if needed nowadays)  Stick is 88.5cm tall and pick handle/grip measures 20cm x 3cm x 4.5cm.   Still in really good condition made from beautiful polished solid wood.    Refer images
