Pair of 19th Century Staffordshire Ointment Pots

Including a Rare Holloways for the Cure of Gout and Rheumatism Pot

A charming duo of antique Staffordshire ceramic ointment pots, dating to the 19th century. These early pharmaceutical containers were once commonplace in Victorian apothecaries and now serve as highly collectible examples of historical packaging and ceramic design.

Included in this lot:

  1. HOLLOWAYS OINTMENT POT
Boldly printed: "Holloways For the Cure of Gout and Rheumatism" one of the more iconic and sought-after named pots from the period.

    • Approx. Size: 5 cm tall

  2. Unbranded/Plain Staffordshire Ointment Pot
Classic plain or possibly lightly labeled pot typical of the era.

    • Approx. Size: 4 cm tall

Condition:
Both pots are in good antique condition with typical glaze crazing and surface wear consistent with age and production methods of the time. No chips noted. These features are expected in utilitarian ceramics from the 1800s and add to their authenticity and appeal.

Historical Note:
The Holloways pot refers to Thomas Holloway, a 19th-century entrepreneur who produced popular patent medicines. His ointments and pills were advertised globally and marketed as cures for a variety of ailments. Pots like these are now prized for their typography, branding, and social history.

Please Note:
While I strive to provide an accurate description, these are vintage/antique items, and minor imperfections from age or original production may be present. The photographs provided are of the actual items and form an important part of the listingplease review them carefully.
