Kids experimented with these things. I bought some loose production run reject cells with minor defects (5" by 5" size) for the kids to experiment with and they are done. What we have is a 6mm hardboard mounting back (1.2x0.8m) with 72 cells (75Watt+) mounted and connected to act as a solar panel - it can be used for a 12V or a 24V system (serial or parallel connection) outputting around 3.5 Ampere+ in 24V mode  and double that in 12V mode. I also have some 30 extra loose and unused cells left. All to go as a a single deal.
