WHAT A FIND..........CHARMING AND VERY DESIRABLE..........ANTIQUE SOLID SILVER 1/2 PINT TANKARD, SOUGHT AFTER PLAIN EXAMPLE.....WITH TYPICAL SPREADING CYLINDRICAL SHAPE AND SLIGHT DROP BASE RIM. DATED FOR SHEFFIELD 1903........FAMOUS & RENOWNED ENGLISH MAKER.....JAMES DIXON & SONS. QUITE A HEAVY PIECE WEIGHING IN AT JUST OVER 160 GRAMS. (VALUE ABOUT 125 POUNDS STERLING). PERFECT CONDITION, NO DENTS OR SPLITS AND NO LEAKS. SOME LIGHT SURFACE MARKS FROM AGE, BUT NO SCRATCHES. TRACES OF GILDED INTERIOR STILL PRESENT GIVING THE PIECE A WARM ATTRACTIVE GLOW ON DISPLAY. IMPRESSED ON THE BASE NUMBER 6802 WITH 1/2 BELOW NUMBER. TANKARD WAS USED AS A CHRISTENING MUG IN 1913 AND BEAUTIFULLY ENGRAVED WITH THE NAME RUPERT HENRY CHAPMAN. ONE MM THICK SIDES AND SHALLOW ENGRAVING MAKES IT A SIMPLE TASK TO REMOVE THE ENGRAVING BRINGING THE TANKARD BACK TO PLAIN THROUHOUT. MEASURES ABOUT 9CM HIGH AND 9,5 CM WIDEST WITH HANDLE.
