A solid-state relay (SSR) is an electronic switching device that switches on or off when an external voltage is applied across its control terminals. A solid State Relay can be switched by a much lower voltage and at a much lower current than most mechanical relays. Also, because there are no moving contacts, solid-state relays can be switched much faster and for much longer periods without wearing out.

Solid State Relays are a great way to control large external AC loads safely. The input is fully optically isolated from the control circuitry so that you do not damage your microcontroller when things go wrong on the high voltage and amps side. Currents higher than 10A need external cooling is required because they can get hot, but they are not expensive, and we do sell them also.
