BD-Live (latest firmware is supplied on a CD) brings you the next generation of interactivity, allowing you to download and stream bonus content such as additional scenes, shorts, trailers, movie-based games, and more. A broadband internet connection is required.
Full HD 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema Video Output
Most movies are shot at 24 frames per second, and Blu-ray disc movies are mastered at 24 frame per second. The Sony Blu-ray disc player can output your movies at 1080/24p for a true film-like experience at home. This player can also output at 1080/60p for older HDTV displays. It will auto-detect the movie and TV being used.
Quick start-up mode
Quick start-up mode allows operation in about 6 seconds from when the player is switched on. This standby mode uses more current (29 watts) than true "off" (0.3 watts). Normal start-up is about 45 seconds.
Dolby TrueHD decoder built-in
Dolby TrueHD provides lossless studio master quality audio designed specifically for high definition audio that is supplied on Blu-ray discs. An incredible sound stage, dynamic range and a stellar Home Theater experience await you with Dolby TrueHD.
Dolby TrueHD /DTS-HD bitstream out over HDMI (V1.3)
Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD gives you sound quality that matches the crystal clear image of Blu-ray discs. With up to 7.1 channels of surround sound and audio that is indistinguishable from the original studio version, Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD promises you an extraordinary surround experience. It will also play DTS encoded discs.
DVD upscale to 1080p
DVD upscaling via HDMI enhances the DVD image by upscaling standard definition video to near high definition quality. Precision Cinema HD upscale uses high bandwidth digital-to-analog conversion and processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. Additionally, separate algorithms are used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.
Ethernet port for network update. This port provides connectivity to a home broadband connection so you can download network updates.
USB port for BD-Live external memory.
You need to insert a 1Gb USB memory stick into the USB port when downloading BD-Live program material from the internet.
Please take some time when you get this player to set up the various outputs correctly. It will operate out of the box, but you can get much better results, both with the picture and sound, when you go through the setup menu tweaking different things.
The firmware upgrade which enables BD-Live is included on a CD. Please read the instructions.
