Deep Colour and x.v.Colour combine to provide subtle detail that's simply impossible to recreate with DVD. 24p True Cinema ensures that the motion stays fluid and judder free - just as you'd see it at the cinema. Furthermore, thanks to the Super Scaler (Precision CinemaHD upscale) and DVD 24p output, the BDPS490 gets a better performance than ever from your existing DVDs.

Having full compatibility with Dolby and DTS HD processors, the Sony BDPS490 has access to the very highest levels of sound quality available from Blu-ray. In comparison to DVD, the sound is more detailed, dynamic and precise - especially in surround sound formats. Should you want to improve the sound of DVDs and CDs still further, there is also a digital output to which you can attach a higher quality DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor).
THE MOST COMPLETE NETWORKING YET, WITH SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK
At the heart of the Sony BDPS490's networking ability is the Sony Entertainment Network. This gives access to a massive range of apps, including the highly popular YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm, Twitter, Facebook and many more. In addition to an application based browser for the most well known sites, the BDPS490 also comes with the Opera web browser for full Internet access (display of embedded video restricted). The BDPS490 is also DLNA compliant meaning that you can stream data from your laptop, PC or NAS drive device. Streaming from your home network hub can be via Ethernet cable or an optional USB dongle connected to the rear USB socket. Thanks to smartphone apps for iPhone or Android, you can take control of the Sony with your phone's comprehensive touch screen. Taking this a stage further is the new wireless 'push' and 'throw' facility. Use your smart phone to 'push' stored music, photos or video to your TV via the Blu-ray player. Likewise you can 'throw' the webpage you're browsing on your smartphone or tablet to the TV's screen, also via this Blu-ray player.
