CONCLUSION:

The UX490N is a fast, portable device that more than lives up to my expectations. The controls are well laid out; it's easy to hold and operate. Sony's inclusion of a Bluetooth GPS unit and an extended battery is commendable. This is a must-have device if you are constantly on the go and don't want to lug around a laptop or even a subnotebook.

Even resource hogging apps like Office 2007, Norton 360 & Photoshop CS3 run well on the UX. The included trial apps can be easily removed via Sony's application uninstaller. The included Vaio apps are very useful, especially the launcher.

The UX's Achilles Heel is it's keyboard. It lacks tactile feedback. With the enabling of Vista's Sticky keys, the keyboard becomes very easy to operate (see comments below). If you tether your wireless broadband phone to the UX, you won't miss the lack of HSDPA (only EDGE available onboard).

If you can afford, get this device. It can turn out to be your most-used device.
