The American Mountain Ash is a relatively small deciduous perennial tree, native to northern North America and the Appalachian Mountains. Its conspicuous white spring flowers and winter persistent orange fruit make it one of our most recognizable trees. In autumn the leaves turn a clear yellow. It can reach heights of 13m. The American Mountain Ash prefers a rich moist soil and the borders of swamps, but will flourish on rocky hillsides. The American Mountain Ash is cold hardy to USDA zone 3. Planting instructions:Scarfication: Soak in water for 12 hours. ¿¿Stratification: Cold stratify for 180 days. Germination: sow seed 1/16" deep, tamp the soil, keep moist, mulch the seed bed. Can be sown outdoors in the fall for spring germination. Also sporadic germination may occur over a 2-3 year period.
