This complete 1972 South African decimal coin set includes all circulating denominations from ½ Cent to 1 Rand, originally issued by the South African Mint. The coins were originally housed in official mint PVC packaging but have been carefully removed and placed in archival 2×2 cardboard flips to prevent long-term PVC contamination, a common issue affecting early South African mint sets.
The 1972 year set is particularly desirable among collectors due to the presence of the ½ Cent, which was struck in a very limited mintage of only 20,000 coins and was never released for circulation.
