1989 South African One Rand struck in nickel, part of the long-running Springbok series introduced in 1965. This type features the familiar leaping springbok on the obverse with the motto SOLI DEO GLORIA, while the reverse displays the South African coat of arms and bilingual legend SUID-AFRIKA / SOUTH AFRICA.
The 1989 issue is one of the final years of the classic larger-format One Rand before later redesigns and remains a popular piece for South African collectors assembling date runs.
An attractive lightly circulated to near-uncirculated example with strong original lustre remaining, only light contact marks and some minor handling visible in the reflective fields. Overall a pleasing collector-grade coin.
