Hardcover published 1897 by T. Fisher Unwin, no jacket. The boards with stamped gilt titling are square, but scuffed and edge-worn, with some surface insect damage, more so in a large patch on the rear. The paste-downs and initial pages are tanned, the front ones containing two sets of previous owner details, one scribbled out in pencil, and another in contemporary pen. There are short narrow tracks of insect damage to the bottom of the first six pages, and to the last four. The title page contains another name of a previous owner, in pencil. There is the beginning of a split to the binding between pages 64 and 65. Apart from some scattered foxing throughout, the gilt-topped pages are otherwise clean and unmarked.
