South Africa - Bronze '1936 Empire Exhibition' Plaque (Johannesburg)
This early, South African, heavy, bronze rectangular plaque, made for the '1936 Empire Exhibition' in Johannesburg is in excellent condition and nicely tarnished. It has wonderful detail, all in relief on both sides, featuring a gold mine on the 'WITWATERSRAND' on the front, and a 'layout plan' of the exhibition on the back, pointing out where the various countries, exhibiting are. The plaque was produced by the 'Royal Mint' in Pretoria and designed by 'E. Naylor'. It measures 75mm x 50mm x 3mm and weighs 108g.
