A South Africa Medal with 1877-8 Clasp to Captain C. Loder of the Tembu Levies. Only four South African Medals  were awarded to this unit, all with the 1877-8 clasp.

Edge engraved in italic capital letters: "CAPT: C. LODER. TEMBU LEVIES. "

Confirmed on the medal roll by Roy Dutton in Zulu & Basuto Wars (see images). The spelling of the name is given there as LODAR.

The roll does not confirm Loder's rank and the name of the unit has been given with TEMBU as TENBU but elsewhere in his book the spelling is correct.

Note: This medal came to me with a KSA Medal to Pte. E.S. Loder, probably the son of the recipient of this medal.
