Lt.Commander Alan Shelton Bowyer.
Alan Bowyer was the son of Walter Bowyer who received the Transport Medal. (1889-1902) for service during the Boer War, and British War Medal & Mercantile Marine Medal. (1st.W.W.)
Allan was born 10th December 1909, By profession a Solicitor, In 1945 the Admiralty lent two Royal Navy River Class Frigates to the South African Government. H.M.S. Teviot and H.M.S. Swale.H.M.S. Teviot was re commissioned under the command of Lt. A.S.Bowyer, with a South African crew at Cape Town. On the 11th June 1945 he was attached to the Royal Navy on Special Service and on the 10th June 1945 sailed for Colombo to join the Far Eastern fleet. She arrived on 2nd July but later struck an uncharted wreck in Burmese water, after undergoing repairs she returned to Durban to be laid off from war time service in January in 1946.
His last day in service was the 7th March 1946 having served a total in military service 5yrs 233 days.
