The boards are stained and gilt titling to spine faded. There may have been dampness at some stage - see watermarks on inside of front board and front end page. However there is no waviness of pages. Binding is visible between front board and end page.
The title page is completely tanned. Along the edges of the first few pages, especially the front end page and inside of front end page, there are evidence of possible insect damage. The rest of the pages are crisp and clean.
Published in 1877 by London, Longmans & Co and Cape Town South Africa, J.C. Juta. This 345 page copy is still in sound condition, not bad fo 146 years.
