Commentary: Dr T.W. de Jongh’s 4th issue is characterised by a complete new issue (diamond now containing the latent ultraviolet light fluorescent ink on the front and a mining on the reverse). The watermark reverted back to the portrait of van Riebeeck in place of the Springbok.
All R5 notes are now always English predominant and hence all subsequent set contain a normal issued note and its replacement.
