 2005 Protea Launch Set - Albert Luthuli

The 1 oz 24 carat gold Protea coin and the 1/10th oz 24 carat gold coins both feature the special mint mark celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Soutah African Freedom Charter. The set also contains a sterling silver R1 coin. Only 400 sets minted worldwide.

The 2005 Protea coin series depicts the honourable Chief Albert John Mvumbi Luthuli, the first South African to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On 11 December 1961 Luthuli was awarded the 1960 Nobel Peace Prize in Norway, Oslo. He died on July 21, 1967 at the age of 69.

 Mandela Rugby Twin Set

Although South Africa was instrumental in the creation of the Rugby World Cup competition, the Springboks did not compete in the first two World Cups in 1987 and 1991 because of anti-apartheid sporting boycotts of South Africa. Thanks to the non-violent struggle of our nations Golden Hero Mr Nelson Mandela, the team made its World Cup debut in 1995 on home soil, with the newly democratic South Africa hosting and winning the tournament.

This prestigious set consists of a ½ ounce gold and a 1 ounce silver medallion that both feature the world renowned Springbok emblem on the reverse.

 2010 Laduma Prestige Set

The designs on the coins featured in the Laduma Prestige set depicting typical football images and trademarks of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, and also truly South African symbols from the various host provinces, symbols from the South African coat-of-arms and national symbols. The Laduma Prestige set contains all the pure gold coins in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa coin series.

On the obverse of each gold coin, the year of mintage is featured as well together with the national coat-of-arms and the words "South Africa".

On the reverse of each coin, official trademarks of the 2010 FIFA World Cup are featured together with the coin and elements that represent South Africa.The designs on the R1 (1/10th oz, 24 carat gold) coins combine elements from South Africa's national symbols and coat-of-arms. The national symbols chosen are the Blue Crane (national bird) in 2007, the Real Yellowood (national tree) in 2008, the Galjoen (national fish) in 2009 and the King Protea (national flower in 2010). Complimenting these symbols are elements derived from the South African coat-of-arms. The Secretary bird featured in 2007, Khoisan rock art in 2008, a stylized sun and African patterns in 2009 and the Elephant in 2010.On the R2 (¼ oz, 24 carat gold) coin minted in 2006, the transition from the FIFA World Cup in Germany to South Africa is represented. Symbols from both countries appear in the outer circle. In the inner circle the official Emblem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa is depicted.
