The Sonke (all of us) Festival was held at Durban's Kings Park Stadium on Sunday 24 October 1993. A 60,000 strong crowd of mainly Zulus gather to hear Nelson Mandela’s address in the run up to the 1994 general elections. Mandela stressed the need for unity and dwelt on the role of successive Zulu kings and other traditional leaders in South Africa's liberation struggle.
Foremost among these was King Dinizulu kaCetshwayo (1868-1913), the king of the Zulu nation from 20 May 1884 until his death. He succeeded his father King Cetshwayo. The ANC was formed on 8 January 1912 and Dinizulu became the organisation’s first honorary vice president.
