South African Womens Auxiliary Service (S.A.W.A.S) Bronze Pin Badge
This is a badge of the South African Women's Auxiliary Service (SAWAS), a volunteer organization active during World War II.
SAWAS was established in November 1939 to support the war effort. It comprised approximately 65,000 women across 483 branches by 1943. Members provided morale and welfare support to servicemen and their families. SAWAS also aided in recruitment and organized leisure activities. The badge was worn by volunteers and officers, signifying their service.
SAWAS was not part of the Union Defence Force but was the largest uniformed women's organization supporting the war effort.
