In this rare book, published by the Southern African Ornithological Society to mark their 60th anniversary, Charles Clinning attempts to explain the origins of all the scientific bird names mentioned in South African Ornithological literature. While he admits (in the introduction) to a few gaps, where he was unable to find the meaning of a word or biographical data on the person honoured in the naming of a particular species, he nevertheless succeeds in unlocking a wealth of information about our remarkable and diverse Southern African bird life.
The copy is in good condition, the spine is tight, the pages clean and unmarked. The cover has some scuffing and there is a small superficial tear at the bottom of the spine.
