A fine commemorative envelope franked with the 1d red and 1½d green stamps issued for the Royal Visit of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret to Southern Africa in 1947.
Both stamps are neatly tied by a Penhalonga datestamp, 1 April 1947 the very first day of issue. Originating from Penhalonga, Southern Rhodesia, this cover is scarcer than the common Salisbury or Bulawayo usages. The clean envelope with crisp strike and intact stamps is addressed locally to Mr. E. W. Mills, PO Box 19, Penhalonga, adding social history interest. The combination of smaller-town provenance, early date, and excellent condition makes this a desirable addition to any Rhodesian or Commonwealth collection.
