" In April 1820, a huge convoy of ninety-six wagons, which had been hired from local Dutch farmers, travelled over the Bushman's River at Jager's Drift, and after passing Theopolis, outspanned at Reed River Post. these wagons were loaded with the worldly goods of four hundred settlers, men, women and children from the British Isles. Some of them even brought with them pianos and furniture, besides farming implements, seeds, temporary shelter in the form of tents, rations, and the hundred and one things needed to set up homes as pioneers."
