Spanish 8-Reaal (Piece of Eight) from unknown SHIPWRECK (probably Spain Philip III 1598-1621)

This shipwreck coin weighs 16.8 grams and was minted in Silver mined from South America (probably Mexico) by the Spanish in the late 1500s or early 1600s.

Other coins from this hoard date to the reign of King Philip III 1598-1621).

Please note that the obverse is totally worn and only some reverse features are visible (part of the lettering and the Spanish coat or arms). It is not a “pretty” coin but its history must be fascinating to collectors of shipwreck pieces of time gone by.
