The coin comes with a typed note stating that it was salvaged from the well-known Reigersdaal that was wrecked at Springfontein Point on our West Coast in 1747. See Malcolm Turner’s “Shipwrecks and Salvage in South Africa”: 1988: Pages 110-113.

The Reigersdaal was an outward-bound Dutch East-Indiaman of 850 tons that was wrecked on 25 October 1747 near Springfontein Point (our West Coast). She had on board a large hoard of silver specie which was in mint condition at the time the vessel was wrecked.
