Sparaxis bulbifera Seeds

South African Endemic Perennial Flowering Bulb

Sparaxis is a genus in the Iridaceae family that is endemic to South Africa and found mostly in the southwestern Cape and the western Karoo. Sparaxis bulbifera is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province. It was previously known as Belamcanda bulbifera, Ixia bulbifera, Sparaxis albiflora and Ixia anemonaeflora. Vernacular names include Ferweelblom. It grows 15cm to 45cm tall and it spring it bears a spike of star-shape white/cream flowers. Sparaxis is a winter-growing, summer-dormant genus. For this reason, plant the seeds or corms in autumn between late March and early June. Sparaxis is recommended for cultivation in both gardens and containers.
