SAS cap badge with winged Excalibur and Who Dares Wins motto. Collectable special forces insignia used by British and Commonwealth units.
This item is a Special Air Service (SAS) cap badge, showing the distinctive winged Excalibur (flaming sword) with the famous regimental motto Who Dares Wins. The design was developed during the Second World War by Lt Col Jock Lewes, refined with Sgt Fred French, and endorsed by the SAS founder, Colonel David Stirling.
The SAS badge is internationally recognised as the insignia of the British Armys Special Air Service, regarded as one of the worlds most elite special forces. The style was also adopted by various Commonwealth special forces units, including those in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, and former Rhodesia and South Africa.
Exact origin and era of individual examples depend on material, backing, crown style and maker details.
