Mahlangu’s imagery is uniquely African. He has long been interested in South African’s homecoming to the African continent and consequently one finds oneself drawn into his timeless realm of Southern Africa icons of traditional life. Ancient mythology and African folklore help to create a communication rather than confrontation. The real African heritage is depicted in his work through the use of symbols and patterns from the Ndebele murals and Egyptian hieroglyphics. The theme varies from an exploration of spiritual, mythical ideas of a world to come. In his paintings as well as in the collages traditional African rituals, pots, human figures, calabashes and drums emerge from semi abstract shapes and take form on either paper or canvas.'
