A scarce book - Was a library book before but book and wrapper remained very good - Same edition Google image used. >>> Both scholarly gifted...united through their differences...Rudi is the reserved, slight European with beautiful delicate features....Justin is the athletic jock brimming with confidence. It's the classic will they, won't they .... you're taken on their journey as they navigate the perils of adolescence against a melancholic 1970s Sydney backdrop, and later, through a class trip to Austria. - I suspect I was drawn to this because I'm an incurable romantic...Justin's seemingly abrupt turnaround from bully to admirer of Rudi forms the catalyst for the romance that is lovingly laid out in the book. Yet it's understated and sensitively handled: feelings are hinted at, grudging respect and bewilderment irons itself out to beautiful realization. - If I were to nitpick, nearly all the adults: parents and teachers, are immediately understanding. While progressive and admirable, it didn't ring true somehow...almost as if Eleanor Spence felt the boys already had enough conflict with their taunting classmates and decided to counter this by making the adults benevolent and kind. - Nonetheless - a weepy read, written delicately, imbued with longing and regret.
