LOVELY 54,6cm SPIGA (WHEAT) LINK ITALIAN STERLING SILVER CHAIN WITH DECORATIVE BAUBLES. HALLMARKED 925 AND 'ITALY'
This piece is crafted in Italian sterling silver, a Spiga design, with small silver baubles at intervals along its 546mm length. Spiga (meaning wheat) chains, are generally made up of twisted oval links, that are plaited together in one direction, to create a delicate and symmetrical chain. The chain tends to look like the tips of wheat stalks, hence the name Spiga/wheat. The closure is a simple spring clasp. The 5,28 gram piece bears both the 925 hallmark indicating sterling silver and the 'ITALY' hallmark indicating Italian silver. As with Italian silver, it has a beautiful very white shine to it. A simple, pretty piece, made more interesting by the chain. You could wear it with a pendant but it is the kind of decorative necklace that should be worn as is.
