This is a photographic portfolio of the world's most famous fighter; apparently the first of a series of books by the same author.
It puts the Spitfire in a modern setting, and includes just about every surviving aircraft in the world at the time of publication.
There are Spitfires in private collections and those on public display. There are those that are fully airworthy, and some in bits and pieces in the process of being restored. There are pictures of the inside the cockpits and fuselage and wings as well as glorious colour shots of Spitfires on the ground and in flight.
There are some painted in pretty unusual colours too; including a Spitfire painted red and one painted black. The accompanying text is not overly taxing to read, but it is possible to while away an hour or so just thumbing through the beautiful photographs.
