History: Josiah Spode was the first potter to introduce Blue underglazed transfer-printed earthenware in 1785. The blue colouring did not fade during the initial glazing as did other colours. By 1822, Spode had developed new colours including green, brown, purple and black which withstood the initial temperature during glazing. The Bamboo and Rock pattern is undoubtedly copied or inspired by early Chinese porcelain which was exported to Europe in the late 1700s
Description: Blue transfer scene of Bamboo and a Rock, hand clobbered in yellow. This color combination is recorded in Spode's B Pattern Book as number 76. The pattern was produced in a number of color combinations including B 254 for brown, yellow and puce, B 256 for Chestnut Brown, and B 1653 in shades of green and brown. These are earthenware plates. The plate has the early Spode mark printed in blue as well as a impressed Spode mark, indicating the early age of production. A fairly thick glaze with small brown spots indicates that the kiln would likely to have been wood fired.
Condition: Excellent condition, some minor glaze cracks and some small impurities in the glazing process. No chips, fractures and showing very little use.

For comparison.......... Unfortunately, I have NOT been able to find the blue and yellow combination. However, later productions of the green colouration can be found on Google
