Included are the following ephemera: A signed letter of thanks from Ernst van Heerden to the surgeon who amputated his legs i 1974 detailing his recovery progress and thanking him for Frankle's book (probably "Man's Search for Meaning"), a souvenir publication with "Die Geneesheer se Credo" / "The Doctor's Creed" by Ernst van Heerden and a few newspaper cuttings.
Ernst van Heerden 1916 - 1997 was a celebrated South African poet and teacher. He was awarded a Silver Medal in the Olympic Games for poetry in 1948. He was a one-time weightlifter who captained South Africa's weightlifting team during the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. He was a professor of Afrikaans and Dutch from 1967-1981.
