INSPIRATION BEHIND THE PAINTING:

I live in Barrydale in the Klein Karoo. We have the most amazing walks out here. On these walks we get to see so much bird life and wildlife, such as the Riverine Rabbit (an endangered species), donkeys, cows, baboons and sheep.

I wanted to capture the essence of the land, the stark moody sky about to burst with the much-needed rains, and the clay earth, which I paint in reds to enhance the feeling of the land being alive. The donkey's that come to our back fence are so feisty and curious. One morning, at around 4am, four of them actually broke into our yard to see what they could graze on. It was an interesting experience waking up that early, on a winters morning, to usher out a herd of donkeys.

This painting would compliment any living area or office space, a must-have for landscape art appreciators, especially with a South African Karoo edge.
