Spyderco is a cutlery company in America based in Colorado. It was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser.
Primarily, Spyderco emphasized selling their first product at fairs and trade shows held around the country. In 1981 Spyderco introduced their first folding knife, which pioneered the concept of a round hole in a blade for single-handed opening and many other features that ultimately modernized the knife industry and precisely defined the form of the modern folding knife.

It is specially design holes that hold abrasive rods at the perfect 40-degree angle (20 degrees per side) to create keen, long-wearing edges.
The star-shape holes also allow the rods to turn to expose fresh abrasive surfaces. It also helps to orient the edges of the rods for sharpening edges. It is in fact, ideal for most sharpening needs, the Gauntlet Select includes a pair of fine ceramic rods.
