CULTIVAR:  Rolet

 GEM SQUASH

PLANTING SEASON:  MODERATE FROST AREAS:  September to December, early January

LIGHT FROST AREAS:  August to January, early February

NO FROST:  March to May & July to August

DAYS TO HARVEST:  70 - 95 days

WHERE TO PLANT:  Direct sun

SOWING DEPTH:  2 cm

SPACING:  Prepare "planting stations", about 1 metre apart.  Plant 6 seeds to a station.  3 - 4 weeks later thin out to the 3 most vigorous plants

GERMINATION: 7 - 14 days

CULTIVATION:  A rich soil that drains easily is needed for plants to bear fruit prolifically.  As growth increases, water more frequently if the weather is hot and dry.  The practice of mulching is rewarding.  When watering, take care not to wet the foliage, as it encourages fungi.  Feed plants with liquid manure when the first flowers appear.

HARVESTING:  Cut the fruits off with a sharp knife or secateurs.
