A opportunity to acquire this large (38x26cm), heavy, bound volume of the Government Gazettes of the South African Republic (Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek) for 1886 full year, covering almost all aspects of the Republic’s administration under President S. J. P. Kruger, including minutes and decisions of the Volksraad, legislation, presidential proclamations and notices, national budgets and departmental reports, international treaties, mining houses’ letters of incorporation, lists of stemgeregtigde burgers, sales in execution (some as large foldout broadsheets), etc. Hundreds of pages of beautifully typeset text, representing a invaluable source of information on the governance of the Transvaal before the Second Anglo-Boer War. Original brown boards, gilt lettering on spine, throughout, boards are slightly worn. Contents and binding in a good condition, with very occasional foxing. Note that pages 1 to 8 of the Gazette for 6 January 1886, have become detached and are missing, whilst page 9 is torn (as pictured), no information should be lost as contents of Gazettes often overlap.
Bijeengebracht Met Breedvoerigen Bladwijzer door J. G. Kotzé, Hoofdregter (Pretoria, Z. A. Republiek, 1888), ex library of Albrecht Jeppe (with his attorney’s office stamps throughout). An important compilation of Transvaal laws in the decade preceding the Jameson Raid and Second Anglo-Boer War. Original brown leather, gilt lettering on spine, boards are much worn, average condition, binding is intact.
