A slide lock or tube clasp for two strings is a secure, multi-strand closure for bracelets and necklaces. It is made of two tubes that slide apart to open and are pushed back together to lock. Stainless steel is a popular material for this type of clasp due to its durability and resistance to tarnish.
How it works
The clasp consists of two parts:
  1. A stationary outer tube, which holds the locking mechanism.
  2. A smaller inner tube, which slides into the outer tube.
When you push the inner tube all the way into the outer tube, a self-latching lock inside securely holds the pieces together. To open, you simply pull the two halves apart.
Key features
  • Keeps strands untangled: By connecting two separate loops or cords, the clasp helps keep multi-strand jewelry neatly organized while being worn.
  • Stainless steel construction: Stainless steel clasps are resistant to rust, oxidation, and discoloration, making them a long-lasting and hypoallergenic option.
  • Simple to use: The slide-and-lock mechanism is easy to operate, especially for those with dexterity issues who may struggle with small clasps like spring rings.
  • Multiple finishing options: While polished steel is common, these clasps are also available in different finishes, such as gold-plated.
  • Designed for durability: With no springs or complex moving parts to wear out, the main failure point is the tension in the metal, which can be easily adjusted.
How to use a slide lock clasp for two strings
  1. Prepare your jewelry ends: Ensure your two strands of cord, beadwork, or chain are neatly finished with a small loop on each end.
  2. Attach one end: Use a jump ring or a crimp bead to securely attach the loop of one jewelry strand to the loop on one half of the clasp.
  3. Attach the second end: Repeat the process with the second strand and the remaining loop on the same clasp half.
  4. Finish the other side: Attach the remaining two strands of your jewelry piece to the loops on the other half of the clasp.
  5. Connect: To close the jewelry, simply slide the two clasp halves together until they click and lock into place.
