DESCRIPTION | 'Garden Castle (2356 m) is a very familiar and prominent feature in the Drakensberg Garden area. Visitors pass beneath it, on the other side, on their way to the hotel. Flowing past Garden Castle in this early morning winter scene is an icy cold, very young, Umzimkulu River.' The paragraph above is how the artist who painted this superb scene of a section of the Drakensberg describes this scene on a page pasted to the back of this painting (It is shown on the 5th image below). This lovely oil painting was done by Stan Alty (1938 - 1998) who signed his artworks ALTCHEDJIAN. He painted in a style which he called 'photographically realistic' and in which he used paint applied very thinly and in very fine brush strokes. The artwork on sale here is done on artist board in oil. It is framed in a very good quality wooden frame with inner frame. It is signed in the bottom left corner and is not dated but probably dates from the 1980s. The complete painting measures 55 x 75 cm and the artwork alone measures 40 x 60 cm. Have a look at the 5 images below which describe this lovely artwork better than I can. |
CONDITION | This artwork is in excellent condition and is ready to be hung. |
The artist signed this paintings as 'Altchedjian' because that was his Armenian name and he used it to honour his Armenian heritage. This is a beautiful and typical South African Drakensberg scene very realistically and colourfully depicted by a very good artist. Very decorative and also a very good investment.
NOTE THAT I HAVE ANOTHER ARTWORK BY THE SAME ARTIST ON AUCTION. IT ALSO SHOWS A DRAKENSBERG SCENE AND WILL GO VERY NICELY WITH THIS ONE. IT WILL COST ONLY AN ADDITIONAL R30 TO POST THE ADDITIONAL PAINTING SINCE I COMBINE ITEMS FOR POSTAGE. HAVE A LOOK AT THE OTHER ONE.
